By August 3, 2023 a video had gone viral on the internet and you knew it was only a matter of time before what happened next took place.
The video that appears to be taken by a bystander showed an alleged thief whose face was covered, clearing shelves of tobacco products into a large garbage bin he brought with him. The store owner tries to stop the thief and warns he’ll call the police but, the alleged thief was in possession of a knife and warned him to back up.
The bystander in the video demands that the store owner not intervene.
“Just let him go. There ain’t nothing you can do. They’re not going to do nothing,” he says before asking if the owner has insurance.
Then one of the store’s employees grabbed the alleged thief and the other employee grabbed a wooded pole and struck the thief several times and at one point started spanking him.

Well, there are reports that the store owner is going to face criminal charges.
In a lengthy social media post Stockton, California Police announced there timeline and that they are investigating the incident.
According to the police, the alleged robber entered the 7-Eleven On July 38, 2023, around 3:41 am where the incident took place, threatened to shoot the employees, and robbed the store. The following day, July 29, 2023, around 12:27 am, the same robber from the previous day came back to rob the store, and that was when employees intervened.
In both instances the police never reported if they responded to the 7-Eleven after being called by the workers, however, they did respond to the area of Center St/Market St after the alleged thief called 911 to be treated for pain.
It appears that the man who recorded the video name is Deda and he told WABI CBS 5 that the store employees should have let the man go.
“And I’m telling him, ‘No, there’s nothing we can do. There’s nothing you can do. Just let him take and just go,’” said Deda. “I’m trying to feel it out. My job is to make it home. … Hopefully everyone learns in this situation to be in a better mindset next time.”
“Once the guy was done, he tried to bypass the other employee,” Deda said. “The other employee grabs him, and another grabs the stick. And then from there, the fiasco happens.”
