It sure looks like the Biden administration is targeting Catholics and other religious groups
On March 2, 2023, Attorney General Merrick Garland testified before the Senate and there were fireworks during a line of questioning led by Josh Hawley.
The Senator was asking Garland about a leak memo from the FBI calling Catholics that attend Latin Mass extremists. According to the leaked FBI memo, “radical-traditional” Catholics who are interested in the Traditional Latin Mass are likely to have ties to “the far-right white nationalist movement.”
After an intense back and forth, one answer by Garland was particularly frightening.
“Attorney General, are you cultivating sources and spies in Latin mass parishes and other Catholic parishes across the country?” Hawley asked.
“The Justice Department does not do that and does not do investigations based on religion. I saw the document you sent. It’s appalling. It’s appalling. I’m in complete agreement with you. I understand that the FBI has withdrawn it and is looking into how this could ever have happened,” Garland replied.
When asked how many informants the FBI has in Catholic churches across America, Garland said, “I don’t know, and I don’t believe we have any informants aimed at Catholic churches. We have a rule against investigations based on First Amendment activity.”
Later he said, “I don’t know specifically” how many sources are embedded in Catholic churches.

Around the same time Garland was getting grilled the White House response was no better.
During a press briefing at the White House Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre sidestepped an important question.
Below is a partial transcript:
Reporter: Is President Biden aware of this leaked document that recently came out of the Richmond, Virginia, field office that compared Catholics — conservative Catholics — to violent extremists?
Several attorneys general have written a letter, and they say, quote, “Anti-Catholic bigotry appears to be festering in the FBI, and the Bureau is treating Catholics as potential terrorists because of their beliefs.” Again, they wrote that in reaction to that leaked document.
So, my question is: Is the President aware of that document? And what would he tell Catholics seeing these headlines who might be worried “They’re coming after us — the Feds — because of our faith”?
Ms. Jean-Pierre: So, I — look, I have not seen this leaked document. I have not spoken to the Pres- — I haven’t seen it, so therefore I haven’t spoken to the President about it. So I just don’t want to get ahead of — of that.
Reporter: Would you look at it eventually and give —
Ms. Jean-Pierre: Okay.
Reporter: Okay.
Ms. Jean-Pierre: I’m happy to.
