Bret Baier Responds To Journalist

Chuck Todd is taking shots at Bret Baier, but the irony is almost too rich to ignore. Here we have a former NBC News anchor—who spent years as a Democratic operative with a press badge—accusing Baier of losing his journalistic integrity, all while sitting on The Bulwark podcast, a platform dedicated to attacking anything remotely conservative.

Todd’s complaint? That Baier has supposedly drifted into the realm of opinion journalism, becoming more like Sean Hannity and less like Brit Hume. His evidence? Well, he doesn’t really provide any. Instead, he offers a vague grievance about how certain journalists (who he refuses to name) didn’t “reciprocate” his supposed goodwill during tough times.

Then Todd really lets the bitterness show:

“Instead, he now just wants to have tee time with the president. I hope he enjoys it.”

Now, let’s put aside for a moment the fact that Todd himself spent his entire career cozying up to Democratic administrations—because that alone makes this criticism laughable. The real question is: What exactly is Chuck Todd doing these days?

Baier, when asked about Todd’s comments, responded with the type of polite but devastating dismissal that only someone truly secure in their career can deliver:

“Yeah, that’s interesting. I don’t know what prompted Chuck to do that. I have an interview to do with the UK prime minister today. I don’t know what he’s doing.”

That’s called a reality check. While Baier is sitting down with world leaders, Todd is playing guest on a niche anti-Trump podcast, venting about how the world has moved on without him.

And Baier wasn’t done:

“I think my focus is, you know, what I said, covering the news. If I have off-the-record conversations in moments with President Trump, I think any journalist would want to get in his mind of what’s next.”

This is where Todd’s argument completely falls apart. Of course a journalist should want to understand the thinking of a former and potentially future president. That’s called doing your job. But because Trump is involved, Todd and his allies act as though basic journalistic practices suddenly become a moral failing.

If Chuck Todd wants to talk about journalistic credibility, let’s remember his own track record. This is the same man who:

  • Spent years dismissing legitimate concerns about Joe Biden’s cognitive and physical decline—until it became politically safe to acknowledge them.
  • Helped shield the Obama and Biden administrations from scrutiny while amplifying Democratic talking points.
  • Built a career in corporate media by playing the role of the respectable left-wing journalist, only to lash out now that his influence has faded.

Todd wasn’t alone in his hypocrisy. Baier pointed out that media figures like CNN’s Jake Tapper did the exact same thing—mocking concerns about Biden’s decline as “cheap fakes” before eventually trying to cash in by writing books about it.
