During the July NATO summit in DC President Biden held a press conference and there was a lot of reaction after its conclusion.
President Biden’s press conference stirred significant controversy, with critics labeling it the “worst possible outcome” for Democrats amid ongoing turmoil within the party. The event was marked by several verbal missteps and did little to calm the nerves of party members or supporters.
Josh Holmes, host of the Ruthless podcast, remarked, “This is gonna end in the worst possible place for Democrats. Several verbal gaffes. Does nothing to quell nerves. Yet nothing sufficient enough for Democrats to break out the political long needle on his candidacy tonight.”
The National Journal Hotline editor, Kirk A. Bado, compared the press conference to Biden’s ABC News interview, calling it a “Goldilocks performance”—neither bad enough to cause a significant backlash nor good enough to silence critics. “So far this is a very similar Goldilocks performance to Biden’s ABC News interview: not bad enough to open the floodgates, but not good enough to silence the critics. A frustrating spot for Dems,” he noted.
Adding to the criticism, The Spectator editor-at-large, Ben Domenech, highlighted the political advantages for the opposition. “Trump, RNC benefit, while Democrats waiting to release statements hardest hit,” he tweeted. Domenech’s sentiment was echoed by Kyle Saunders, a political science professor at Colorado State University, who described the press conference as a “Rorschach test that doesn’t lead to definitive action on its own.”
Saunders elaborated on the dilemma facing the Democrats: “The problem is that this isn’t fatality bad, it’s just not that good either. Right in that no win zone. Exactly what the Ds did not need.”
Several moments during the press conference raised eyebrows and contributed to the overall negative perception. At one point, Biden mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.” In another instance, he stated, “I’m following the advice of my commander-in-chief,” when he intended to say the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
But there was another moment that was even more bizarre and reveals how incompetent the Biden team is.
Before the “big boy” press conference, Biden made a big gaffe, calling Zelensky “President Putin” while introducing him. For some reason, the Biden-Harris campaign proudly posted it.
Why would you post this?
President Biden: Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin. President Putin? He’s gonna beat President Putin
President Zelenskyy: I’m better
