DHS Reports On Incident On College Campus

It’s hard to imagine a clearer example of how deep the rot of ideological obstructionism has gone than what just unfolded at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. According to the Department of Homeland Security, campus administrators at the school physically tried to block federal agents from arresting a previously convicted illegal immigrant sex offender — who was freely roaming their university grounds.

Yes, you read that right.

On Saturday, ICE officers tracked down Jesus Saucedo-Portillo, an illegal immigrant with prior arrests for sexual assault and driving while intoxicated. They had a warrant in hand and located him as he was getting into his vehicle on campus. But before they could finish the arrest, they were intercepted by a university administrator and campus security guards — who then tried to stop the arrest from taking place, claiming ICE was “violating university policies.”

University policies? Against enforcing federal law? Against arresting a known sex offender?

According to DHS, ICE officers made it clear: federal law supersedes university policy. They also warned that blocking a law enforcement vehicle could constitute obstruction of justice. Still, Augsburg administrators allegedly doubled down, instructing campus security to physically block ICE’s vehicle. ICE, according to the agency, was forced to use the “minimum amount of force necessary” to complete the arrest.

But Augsburg officials weren’t done yet. After the incident, the university issued a statement portraying ICE as masked aggressors who stormed the campus and “aimed weapons at witnesses” — conveniently ignoring the fact that their staff interfered with the lawful arrest of a criminal with a record of endangering public safety.

This is the twisted reality we’re now in: a university — funded in part by taxpayers — tried to protect a known offender from deportation, and then painted federal agents as the threat.

Augsburg claims to be committed to public safety. But what about the safety of students from predators like Saucedo-Portillo? What about the rule of law? What about the countless families harmed by sanctuary policies that shield criminal aliens in the name of inclusion?

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has already done his part to enable chaos, signing an executive order banning ICE from operating on city-owned properties, even after the Trump administration deployed over 100 ICE agents to crack down on Somali-led welfare fraud schemes that funneled stolen U.S. tax dollars to terror groups like Al-Shabaab. If you’re wondering why federal officers are now taking more aggressive action in Minneapolis, this is why.

This isn’t a debate over immigration policy. This is about basic law enforcement. The left wants to pretend it’s about compassion, but it’s not compassionate to let sex offenders remain on campuses. It’s not noble to shield predators. And it’s certainly not justice to obstruct federal agents doing their job to protect communities.
