This happened on Aug. 15 as he stepped off a plane. He pulled a roll bag and wore sneakers, trying to blend in with travelers. It did not work. Six agents surrounded him right there at the gate.
The video shows agents talking to him before walking him up an escalator. They led him into a hallway marked “restricted area.” The California Post obtained this surveillance tape. Agents served a search warrant at about 8:25 p.m. that night. They took his white Apple iPhone, its charging cable, and a wall adapter. They also seized an Apple MacBook Pro. The California Post reported that an inventory filed with the warrant lists these items clearly. Following the FBI departure, Swalwell retained a copy of the warrant and an inventory of seized items. Although permitted to depart following the search, his difficulties were merely beginning.
The next morning, agents went to his home in Washington, D.C. They executed additional warrants there to take more material. The New York Post stated this is part of a federal criminal investigation. The warrant referenced a federal civil-rights statute frequently applied against law enforcement officers accused of abusing their power. This suggests the feds may suspect he used his job to silence women.
The Department of Justice opened this investigation in April. This development occurred while the former congressman confronted several allegations regarding sexual misconduct. The San Francisco Chronicle reported one former staffer accused him of rape when she was too drunk to consent. Another woman claimed he drugged and assaulted her in 2018. Two individuals claimed he transmitted unsolicited images of his genitals to them.
