Explosion at Bomber Base Deep Within Russia Sparks New Phase of War

Just a year or two ago, you would have been laughed out of the room if you had suggested that any nation on earth would attempt, (or get away with), an attack on a Russian military base within her borders…let along a non-nuclear neighbor nation.

But 2022 has been a strange year, in so much as we’ve learned that Russia’s military might was little more than a myth, powered by propaganda.  In fact, the Russian army is so weak that Ukraine is now “possibly” sending drones 400 miles over the border to bomb Russian air bases.

A Ukrainian drone attack on an airbase for bombers in southern Russia has left three people dead, Moscow says.

Air defences shot down the drone near the Engels base, but falling debris fatally wounded three technical staff, the defence ministry said.

Earlier this month, Russia accused Ukraine of a similar attack on the airfield, home to bombers that have carried out missile attacks on Ukraine.

The base lies about 650km (400 miles) north-east of Ukraine’s border.

Ukraine didn’t exactly claim the attack, but they weren’t too subtle about why it happened either.

The Ukrainian military did not officially admit to the latest attack, but air force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said the explosions were the result of what Russia was doing on Ukrainian soil.

The move could be a test of Russia’s mettle, particularly as the Kremlin has been making all manner of wild and unkempt threats of late.  If no response shall come to pass, then Mother Russia might have just lost what little respect they still commanded on the world’s stage.
