Federal Agent Social Media Post Draws Strong Reaction

The fallout from the assassination of Charlie Kirk has now reached one of America’s most sensitive institutions: the United States Secret Service.

On Thursday, veteran reporter Susan Crabtree of Real Clear Politics revealed that a current agent, Anthony Pough, took to Facebook to declare that Kirk’s murder was nothing more than “karma.” In a post shared widely among law enforcement circles, Pough wrote:

“If you are Mourning this guy .. delete me. He spewed hate and racism on his show. At the end of the day, you answer to GOD and speak things into existence. You can only circumvent karma, she doesn’t leave.”

That a man sworn to protect the lives of presidents, vice presidents, and high-level officials would effectively celebrate the political assassination of a conservative leader stunned his peers. One fellow agent told Crabtree: “If that’s all it takes to set you off, that’s dangerous to have around.” Another worried about the “morals of a person sworn to protect the rights of others to engage in politics and exercise free speech, celebrating the death of someone exercising those same rights.”

Pough’s social media footprint reportedly contains other negative posts about President Trump and his policies. While he is currently in Phase 2 of his career — not assigned to a frontline presidential detail — agents are often rotated to high-level coverage when manpower demands surge. That means someone with Pough’s mindset could easily end up responsible for safeguarding the very figures he openly despises.

The timing only heightens concern. The Secret Service has been under intense scrutiny since the July 2024 assassination attempt on then-candidate Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, which left the director of the agency forced out under pressure and Congress holding multiple hearings on systemic lapses. To now discover an active-duty agent publicly endorsing the death of a political figure — one posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump himself — will only further shake confidence in the agency’s neutrality and professionalism.

By Thursday evening, Breitbart News confirmed that Pough had been placed on administrative leave and now faces termination. It is a swift but necessary response: an institution tasked with the sacred duty of protecting American leaders cannot tolerate agents who cheer the assassination of one of them.
