Despite the cliché nature of the statement, (and the fact the we seem to hear this sort of thing ad nauseam), the 2024 presidential election may very well be one of the most important political contests in the modern era.
Our nation is undoubtedly at a turning point of sorts, as our deeply-help divisions continue to foment political violence and angst. Not since the 1860’s have we found ourselves so far from the united ethos of our founding fathers.
And so, unsurprisingly, just about everyone is jockeying for position ahead of 2024…including some prominent members of the GOP.
“Everyone is going to wait and see what Donald Trump decides and make decisions from there,” GOP Sen. Ted Cruz told Fox News at a CPAC event in Dallas, when asked if he would run again. Trump, of course, has not announced whether he intends to seek re-election. He’s been sounding very much like a candidate of late, though one major poll suggests most Republican voters would prefer that somebody else be their candidate.
There are plenty of other names in the hat as well.
As Axios notes, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has emerged as the clear No. 2 to Trump in the current polls. DeSantis also has not said whether he will run. Other names in the mix include Nikki Haley and two figures now seen as Trump political enemies—Mike Pence and Liz Cheney.
Donald Trump hasn’t yet made any official announcement about his 2024 plans, but his near-constant hints and insider rumors seem to suggest that the former President will once again be vying for the White House, and that he may announce his intent as soon as September.
