At a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency held Tuesday, tensions flared and credibility wavered as lawmakers debated the long-term impact of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) program. Titled “Locking in the DOGE Cuts: Ending Waste, Fraud, and Abuse for Good,” the session was intended to evaluate how Congress might institutionalize budget cuts initiated by DOGE under the Trump administration. But a series of embarrassing missteps by Democratic members quickly shifted the spotlight.
Chairwoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) opened the hearing with a pointed call to action: “DOGE has staunched the flow of waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending,” she said. Greene emphasized the need to claw back appropriated funds that DOGE had flagged as unnecessary or duplicative, noting the agency’s “historic impact” on trimming bureaucracy.
Can someone help Democrats like @Rep_Stansbury figure out the math on their fake polls?
67% + 38% + 5% = 110% 🤔

Yet the hearing soon veered into spectacle when Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who has drawn criticism for previous missteps, delivered an unclear and meandering statement on Iran that left members confused. “Maybe we need to start leading with the people in the middle of what it is that is guiding us instead of following one person,” Crockett said, prompting visible reactions from both sides of the aisle.
Adding to the confusion was Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM), who displayed a poll behind her meant to bolster criticisms of DOGE and former adviser Elon Musk. However, as Rep. Brian Jack (R-GA) quickly noted, the figures totaled 110 percent.

*gibberish*@RepMTG: “It still adds up to 110%. That’s a fake poll right there!”

“Just a point of clarification,” Jack began. “The poll behind you… adds up to 110 percent. Is that an error?”
Stansbury, clearly caught off guard, responded: “This is from a Quinnipiac poll that was held two weeks ago, and this is the data that was provided.” She then pivoted to mention unrelated figures about Donald Trump’s polling.
Chairwoman Greene resumed her remarks after Jack yielded back, adding dryly: “The gentleman yields, and it still adds up to 110 percent. That’s a fake poll right there.”

The figure in question — a claimed 67 percent disapproval rate of DOGE — was, in fact, 57 percent according to the cited Quinnipiac data. The inflated number undercut Stansbury’s argument and reinforced the central Republican critique: that opposition to DOGE is rooted in partisan distortion, not factual analysis.
The hearing comes amid rising public interest in DOGE’s future after the departure of several key personnel, including original staffer Edward Coristine and former tech adviser Elon Musk. While Democrats raised concerns about transparency and the speed of DOGE’s budgetary cuts, Republicans insisted that the agency has been one of the few successful reforms in modern federal governance.
