Katyal Discusses Possible Biden Plans

Well, isn’t this a tangled little web of political theater?

Attorney Neal Katyal, a man who never misses a chance to commentate on Trump-world, has spun quite the theory. According to him, Trump—ever the puppet master—is trying to bait President Biden into pardoning Liz Cheney. The goal? To paint Cheney, the onetime GOP darling turned January 6th Committee crusader, as guilty. The logic is… creative, to say the least.

Let’s unpack this. Katyal suggests that Trump wants Biden to swoop in with a pardon for Cheney to protect her from hypothetical charges stemming from her January 6th work. Trump would then use that as evidence to say, “See, even Sleepy Joe thinks Liz has skeletons in her closet!” That’s a fun soundbite, sure, but it’s built on the flimsiest of premises. It makes no sense—unless, of course, you’re looking for MSNBC airtime.

@nealkatyal.bsky.social on Biden potentially pardoning Liz Cheney: “I think what Trump is trying to do here is to bait President Biden into pardoning Liz Cheney, and that’ll allow Trump to say, ‘Hey, look even Biden thinks Liz Cheney did something wrong.’”

Now, Katyal does make one valid point: if anyone tried to prosecute Cheney for her role on the January 6th Committee, they’d hit a brick wall faster than Biden navigating a staircase. Members of Congress are covered by speech or debate immunity under the Constitution, meaning they can’t be prosecuted for legislative acts. This is Civics 101, but apparently, some folks need a refresher.

But let’s not ignore the larger picture here. Liz Cheney, once a staunch conservative voice, has become a lightning rod for controversy. Her high-profile role in the January 6th Committee didn’t just alienate her from the Republican Party—it painted a giant target on her back.

Trump’s critics seem eager to assign him Machiavellian genius in every move, while his supporters often see him as playing five-dimensional chess when sometimes, it’s just tic-tac-toe. Meanwhile, Biden has bigger fish to fry than wading into a Cheney-Trump feud, not that his team has shown much strategic finesse lately. If anything, Biden getting involved would only give Trump a chance to spin the narrative further—and we all know he loves a good spin.

Liz Cheney doesn’t need a pardon. She needs a moment to reflect on how quickly the political winds can shift. And Trump? He’ll keep doing what he does best—dominating the headlines and keeping everyone guessing.
