White House border czar Tom Homan revealed Tuesday that the immigration officer involved in the shooting death of anti-ICE activist Renee Good is now in hiding, citing a flood of threats directed at the officer and his family in the days since the incident.
The disclosure adds another volatile layer to an already combustible situation, one that has rapidly moved beyond the facts of the case into a broader political and cultural confrontation over immigration enforcement.
According to Homan, the officer, Jonathan Ross, has gone into hiding solely for safety reasons. Speaking during an appearance on Will Cain Country, Homan said Ross is waiting for the official investigation to conclude before resurfacing publicly and potentially pursuing legal action for defamation. Homan stressed that Ross’s decision was not voluntary retreat, but a necessary response to escalating threats that have made normal life impossible.

When Cain asked directly whether Ross was currently in hiding, Homan did not hesitate. He confirmed that Ross and his family are doing so out of fear for their safety, noting that activists have circulated Ross’s photograph and license plate number, along with what Homan described as explicit death threats. In that environment, remaining publicly visible would be reckless.
Reports from NBC News appear to corroborate the seriousness of the situation. A neighbor told the outlet that people were seen packing boxes at Ross’s home late last week, and that some neighbors temporarily left the area as tensions intensified. The reaction has effectively displaced not just Ross, but others living nearby, underscoring how quickly political outrage can spill into real-world consequences.

The shooting itself occurred last week in Minneapolis during an immigration enforcement operation. Good, a 37-year-old activist, used her vehicle to block a street and delay federal officers for several minutes. According to accounts of the incident, agents repeatedly instructed her to exit the vehicle. Instead, she backed up and then drove forward toward Ross. After her car struck him, Ross fired his weapon, killing her. The incident is under investigation.
Since then, the case has become a rallying point for critics of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Democratic officials, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have sharply escalated their rhetoric, with Walz warning of a looming “civil war” and previously comparing ICE agents to the Nazi Gestapo. That language has coincided with protests featuring overtly violent chants, including calls to kill ICE agents and threats directed at senior Trump officials.
