Prescription Drug Shortage Rocks The Nation

Thanks to the poor leadership of the Biden administration, the United States is tumbling toward another massive shortage.

Across the country there has been a record shortage of potentially lifesaving treatments for thousands of Americans across the country.

The shortage of prescription drugs in the United States is something that cannot be ignored any longer. It affects Americans, both young and old, leading to serious consequences, including patient harm and, in some cases, possibly death. The effects of the shortage are felt most acutely in the generic drug market, which accounts for nearly 90% of US prescriptions. It’s estimated that there are somewhere between 130 and 301 shortages as of the first quarter of 2023.

One of the contributing factors to the shortage is the surge in popularity of certain drugs, such as Adderall and Ozempic, for alternative uses. Adderall is meant to treat ADHD, but is often abused by students and professionals to increase focus. Ozempic, which was meant to treat Type-2 diabetes, has also been used as a “miracle” weight loss drug, which has caused the limited supplies to quickly become exhausted.

A second factor is the disruption of the global supply chain. It is difficult to calculate precisely where the ingredients for some drugs come from, since the supply chain in the pharmaceutical industry is not totally transparent. The FDA has requested additional resources to get to the bottom of the problem, as the consequences of the shortage are too severe. The shortage has even affected cancer treatments, with some chemotherapy drugs in short supply and health care practitioners having difficult conversations about who does and doesn’t get their dose.

At the same time, the White House is struggling to come up with a solution to the crisis.

Even Democrats are worried.

“Hospitals all across the country, on a regular basis –sometimes weekly — have to review which drugs are in short supply or not available that week.” Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) said in an interview with MSNBC.

Every time the country faces these shortages, is comes back to one thing…the supply chain. Until Biden took power and put Buttiegieg in charge of the supply chain, most Americans didn’t even know the term.

Now the Biden administration’s incompetence is becoming deadly.
