President Trump Taps Erika Kirk To Fill Role Intended For Charlie

President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk, the widow of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, a move that supporters say will continue the legacy her husband began before his death.

The appointment places Kirk among a group of civilian advisers responsible for overseeing aspects of the prestigious military academy. According to the academy’s official website, the Board of Visitors examines a wide range of institutional matters, including morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, facilities, fiscal affairs, and academic methods.

Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, had previously been selected by Trump to serve on the board last year before he was assassinated in September. Following his death, the president chose Erika Kirk to fill the role.

Erika Kirk currently serves as CEO and board chair of Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization her husband built into one of the largest political activist networks targeting college campuses and young voters.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales praised the decision in a statement, saying the appointment honors Charlie Kirk’s contributions while continuing his mission.

“President Trump made the perfect choice in appointing Erika Kirk to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors,” Wales said. “Charlie Kirk served proudly on the Board, inspiring not only the next generation of servicemembers, but millions around the world with his bold Christian faith, defense of the truth, and deep love of country.”

She added that Erika Kirk will help carry forward that work by advocating for the academy and its role in developing future military leaders.

Members of Congress also voiced support for the appointment. Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, a graduate of the Air Force Academy who currently chairs the Board of Visitors, said he encouraged the president to select Erika Kirk.

“I applaud President Trump for appointing Erika Kirk to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors,” Pfluger said in a statement. “Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the Board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the Academy.”

Pfluger added that he looks forward to working with Kirk to carry on Charlie Kirk’s legacy within the academy’s advisory leadership.

The Air Force Academy Board of Visitors plays an oversight role by reviewing academy operations and providing recommendations to federal officials and military leadership. While it does not manage daily operations, the board can influence policies affecting the education and development of future Air Force and Space Force officers.
