Safety Advocates Comment On Harris Statement

Well, well, well—Vice President Kamala Harris is packing heat, and it turns out it’s a Glock!

That’s right, the same Kamala Harris who has spent her entire political career pushing for restrictive gun control measures is now out here telling CBS’s 60 Minutes that she’s a gun owner. You’ve got to love the irony.

Let’s break this down. Harris proudly declared that she’s had this Glock for “quite some time” and has even used it at the shooting range. Now, this is the same woman who supported some of the strictest gun control measures in the country, including the very laws in California that make it next to impossible for the average law-abiding citizen to get their hands on certain types of firearms, including—wait for it—Glocks.

Of course, Harris doesn’t seem too bothered by this little contradiction. Apparently, those tough California gun laws don’t apply to her. And why should they? As a former prosecutor, district attorney, and state attorney general, she’s been exempt from California’s draconian handgun roster that prevents people from buying certain models of guns, including most Glocks released after 2010. Oh, and don’t forget she’s got a team of Secret Service agents to protect her 24/7, but she still insists on keeping a gun for self-defense. Must be nice.

The problem isn’t that Harris owns a gun—plenty of Americans do, and they have every right to. The issue here is the hypocrisy. Harris has been a loud advocate for policies that would make it harder for regular people to own firearms for their own protection, while she’s sitting in her California home, Glock locked and loaded. It’s classic “rules for thee but not for me.”

Gun rights advocates were quick to call her out. C.D. Michel, a California attorney representing the gun-rights groups suing the state over its restrictive handgun laws, didn’t mince words. He pointed out the obvious hypocrisy of Harris owning a firearm while pushing for policies that make it nearly impossible for ordinary people to do the same. “She sees the social utility of firearms for her,” Michel said, “but she doesn’t want anyone else to have access to the most effective tools to defend themselves or their families.”

Harris and her campaign, of course, were tight-lipped on the details. They didn’t say where or when she bought the Glock, which model it is, or whether she got a special exemption to purchase it. And let’s be real—California’s strict gun laws probably didn’t pose much of a hurdle for her back when she was the state’s top cop.

The kicker here is that Harris has spent years advocating for gun control measures like assault weapon bans and universal background checks, while simultaneously owning one of the very firearms her state restricts. She’s also pushed mandatory buybacks and red flag laws. But when it comes to her own personal safety, well, those laws don’t seem quite as necessary, do they?

In true political fashion, gun control advocates are trying to brush this off, claiming there’s no contradiction. Kris Brown, president of the Brady Campaign, said it’s fantastic that Harris owns a gun. Sure, fantastic for her, but not so much for the rest of us who have to jump through hoops just to exercise our Second Amendment rights.

Walz says he hunts, yet he couldn’t even load his…

So, next time Harris takes the stage to lecture America about gun violence and the need for stricter laws, remember this: while she’s perfectly happy to enjoy the protection her Glock provides, she’s working overtime to make sure you can’t do the same. Hypocrisy much?
