There have been several reports that Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar was carjacked in the DC neighborhood of Navy Yard on October 2, 2023.
Cuellar is a “moderate” and has been very outspoken about the border crisis.
From Politico:
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) was carjacked in Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood on Monday evening, according to three people familiar with the situation. The armed assault of Cuellar, first reported by POLITICO, came amid concerns about a spike in carjackings in the nation’s capital…The Metropolitan Police Department and the Capitol Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment, though Cuellar’s office confirmed the account and said he was not harmed. The city’s alert system notified residents of an investigation into a carjacking of a Honda SUV with Texas license plates.
Cuellar is now the second Congressional Democrat to fall victim to this sort of criminal activity. Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota was attacked inside an elevator in her apartment building in early February. Additionally, an aide to Senator Rand paul (R-KY) was stabbed shortly thereafter.
Despite the attacks the DC City Council chose to pass legislation reducing criminal penalties for carjacking. In response, House Republicans voted to overturn the decision which even the city’s mayor opposed.
However, House Democrats voted with the city council.
A month later, things changed after the White House signaled a reversal and the Democart led Senate passed the House bill.
It was a dramatic change.
Carjackings are continuing to increase:
Comes amid a surge in violent crime in DC. Just looking at carjackings alone:
2018: 140 carjackings
2022: 485 carjackings
2023: 651 carjackings (thus far)It’s completely out of control. https://t.co/lZ9TEupTtS

Recently, a left-wing activist in Philadelphia who would often spar with conservatives over the increase in crime in the city was recently shot and killed inside his home.
