It has been confirmed that Hunter Biden, the son of the President of the United States of America is to plead guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income taxes. Additionally, Hunter Biden has agreed to enter into a pre-trial diversion agreement regarding a separate charge of possession of a firearm by someone who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.
According to the U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware, David C. Weiss, Hunter Biden “received taxable income in excess of $1,500,000 annually in the calendar years of 2017 and 2018” and yet avoided paying the income tax due.
The maximum penalty for these offenses includes up to 2 years in prison for the tax charges and up to 10 years for the firearm charge. On top of this, Hunter Biden could be subject to preferential sentencing guidelines and other legal criteria as per the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
In response to this plea agreement, Mr. Biden’s criminal counsel Christopher Clark affirmed that the 5-year investigation on Hunter is concluded. He further stated that Hunter has taken responsibility for two misdemeanors and a firearm charge by means of the pretrial diversion agreement. He wished to reiterate that this is a period of ‘turmoil and addiction’ in his life and it is important to take responsibility for mistakes made.
Prior to this confirmation, it had reported back in 2020 that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had begun a money laundering investigation involving Hunter Biden and funds from other foreign countries mainly China.
The investigation commenced after suspicious activity was found on the laptop and hard drive reportedly owned by Hunter Biden. In response, Hunter Biden himself had confessed that the matter was being taken seriously and was positive that the investigation would back its legitimacy and professionalism.
However, it was former President Trump who gave the perfect response to Hunter Biden’s Plea.
