Earlier this week, Vladimir Putin showed the entire world just how desperate things had become for him, issuing both a declaration and a threat that belie the current weakness of the Russian military.
Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, which the Kremlin believed would be over in about 72 hours, is now dragging on well into its seventh month, and Putin’s recent order to involuntarily draft 300,000 citizens for military service is sparking outrage across Russia.
But, during the same address as the one announcing this conscription, Putin also threatened the use of nuclear weapons in the war, adding a very telling statement: “This is not a bluff”.
Former US President Donald Trump has now responded, and with gusto.
Former President Trump responded Wednesday to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hinting at being willing to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, saying that the conflict should never have happened and that it could lead to a world war.
Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social that the conflict would not have come to pass if he were still in the Oval Office.
Instead, the world is on edge.
“But as I have made very clear for quite some time, this could now end up being World War III,” he said.
Trump’s assertion about a global conflict has been echoed many times over in the mainstream media and online, as Putin’s decision making becomes all the more erratic as time passes.
