Trump Opponents Invent A Coup That Won’t Happen

A former federal judge named Michael Luttig just wrote a scary story about a coup that isn’t real. The New Republic published his essay claiming Donald Trump will stop Democrats from holding seats in Congress. The headline reads like a bad movie script. Luttig says House Republicans will claim the 2026 midterms were stolen when they meet on January 3. According to him, Speaker Mike Johnson will dismiss the House clerk and appoint a loyalist in his place.

The Federalist called this a “make-believe future” where Luttig has no evidence. He just typed up a description of events that might happen because he says so. The magazine notes we have seen this “casual media psychosis” for ten years. Luttig claims Republicans are poised to reject the election results and only seat MAGA members. But he offers no proof for this wild claim. It is just a fantasy about a future that may never come to pass.

Chris Bray, a senior correspondent at The Federalist, points out that these warnings are always fake. He notes that the Huffington Post used similar hype after the 2016 election. Ten years later, no one has lost birth control rights or been forced to kneel. The left keeps making up scary stories to gin up panic among voters. They treat fiction as fact to keep people afraid.

While the left invents a coup, voters are skeptical about Trump’s promise to send $5,000 checks to Americans. Fox News reported that most people do not believe this will ever happen. At the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention in Dallas, Trump introduced the concept. He said eligible Americans would get the money if Republicans keep their majorities in the House and Senate.

Another voter, Daniel from Maryland, questioned the cost. 1 trillion. Even if the money existed, he thinks it should go to other places.

Liz from Alexandria, Virginia, called the idea “absolute nonsense. She commented, “I do not believe anything that man ever says. Many voters remember previous promises that never materialized, like a stimulus check that didn’t happen. The proposal would cost roughly $1.2 trillion, which is far more than the customs duties collected from tariffs. The math simply does not add up for most people.

Trump also dismissed fears that artificial intelligence will destroy humanity as a “hoax.” He argued that strict rules would hurt American companies and help China.

He pointed out that Chinese President Xi Jinping is letting AI development move forward without restrictions. Trump said Google wants to build a plant in Finland because permits are too hard to get in the US.

Top tech figures like Sam Altman and Elon Musk want more safety rules. He insists that whoever wins the AI race, wins everything.
