From the very beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it had become patently obvious that the former was not going to have an easy time with the latter. Ukraine’s courageous and inspired defense of their sovereign nation, combined with Russia’s inexperience military, (and antiquated weaponry), made it tough going for the Kremlin.
Now, as further evidence of Russia’s unadulterated failures, Ukraine is now attacking Moscow’s military infrastructure in Crimea – an area that has been occupied by Vladimir Putin’s Thugs since 2014.
Powerful explosions rocked a Russian air base in Crimea and sent towering clouds of smoke over the landscape Tuesday in what may mark an escalation of the war in Ukraine. At least one person was killed and several others were wounded, authorities said.
Russia’s Defense Ministry denied the Saki base on the Black Sea had been shelled and said instead that munitions had blown up there. But Ukrainian social networks were abuzz with speculation that it was hit by Ukrainian-fired long-range missiles.
The scene was something to behold.
Videos posted on social networks showed sunbathers fleeing a nearby beach as huge flames and pillars of smoke rose over the horizon from multiple points, accompanied by loud booms. Crimea Today News said on Telegram that witnesses reported fire on a runway and damage to nearby homes as a result of what it said were dozens of explosions.
As Ukraine continued to beat back the Russian advances in the rest of the country, officials warned the Kremlin that they would be looking to retake all territories that Russia had absconded with, including Crimea.
It seems that this day is now upon us.
