This story out of New Hampshire feels less like a routine customer dispute and more like one of those culture-war collisions where everybody walks away angry, confused, and convinced society has completely lost its mind.
Judy Walcott, a longtime Planet Fitness member in Concord, says she was kicked out of the gym after raising concerns about seeing someone she believed was biologically male inside the women’s locker room near the showers. What happened afterward — according to her account — spiraled into accusations of transphobia, disputed paperwork, police involvement, and a growing national debate over privacy, safety, and inclusion policies.
And the whole thing just kept escalating.
Walcott says the initial encounter on April 11 rattled her badly. She described herself as physically shaking after leaving the locker room because she felt unsafe and caught completely off guard by what she saw. She immediately went to the front desk expecting staff to at least investigate the situation or check the locker room. Instead, she says an employee told her there was nothing they could do because company policy allows transgender members to use facilities based on gender identity.
That answer clearly did not sit well with her.
A few days later, she returned to raise the issue again, hoping maybe another employee would take her concerns more seriously. According to Walcott, the second conversation went downhill almost instantly. She claims the employee interrupted her mid-explanation and began defending the individual she was describing while repeatedly labeling Walcott “transphobic.”
At that point, this stopped being a conversation about locker room policy and turned into a full-blown ideological standoff.
Walcott says she walked away frustrated, only to receive a phone call from the gym manager a couple of hours later informing her that her membership had been canceled for violating company policy. When she asked what policy she had violated, she says nobody would explain it clearly.
And then things got even stranger.
After checking her account online, Walcott discovered she had still been charged for another month despite supposedly being canceled. She also found a cancellation form in her account containing a notation that read “Nondiscrimination Trans.” Walcott insists she never submitted the form and now believes her signature may have been forged. Fox News Digital reviewed the document but noted it could not independently authenticate it.
Now imagine being in her position at that moment. You think your membership was canceled against your will, you believe paperwork may have been filled out without your authorization, you are still getting charged money, and when you return to the gym seeking answers, police get called on you.
That is exactly what Walcott says happened next.
She returned to Planet Fitness on April 17 attempting to use the remainder of her paid membership and dispute the additional charges. Instead, she says the manager refused to refund her money and contacted law enforcement. Concord police later formally trespassed her from the property.
“So she takes a form, signs my name, charges me money, extends my membership, and then calls the cops on me,” Walcott said. “What the hell? I feel like I live in an upside-down land.”
That line probably explains why this story exploded online. Because regardless of where people stand politically, there is something about these situations that instantly taps into broader frustrations people already have about social rules changing rapidly around them.
Planet Fitness, for its part, has a clearly stated transgender inclusion policy. The company allows members who identify as transgender to use locker rooms, showers, and sex-separated facilities matching their gender identity. The company also says it aims to maintain an “inclusive gym environment” while encouraging clubs to provide private changing spaces whenever possible.
But policies written neatly on corporate websites are one thing. Real-life human reactions inside a locker room are another.
