A disturbing act of violence in Vancouver, Canada has raised serious concerns about politically-motivated attacks targeting Tesla owners, after a pregnant woman was seriously injured last Sunday when a two-pound rock was hurled through the windshield of the Tesla she was riding in.
The incident occurred on March 30 at approximately 8:45 p.m. as the woman traveled as a passenger in a gray Tesla along Nanaimo Street. According to Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison, the rock crashed through the windshield and struck the woman directly, narrowly missing vital areas. She sustained what police described as a “serious, but non-life-threatening injury,” and is now recovering.
Sgt. Addison emphasized how close the situation came to becoming fatal: “This was inches from being a homicide.”
Investigators have yet to determine the origin of the rock or whether the vehicle was specifically targeted due to its make. However, the timing of the incident has added weight to growing concerns about a broader campaign of targeted violence linked to politics—particularly directed at Tesla, its founder Elon Musk, and his affiliations with the Trump administration.
The attack occurred on the same day as the globally organized “Tesla Takedown” protests, spearheaded by left-wing activist groups critical of Musk’s political involvement.
These demonstrations, largely concentrated in progressive cities, have coincided with a surge in acts of vandalism and sabotage aimed at Tesla dealerships and owners—both in the U.S. and, increasingly, in Canada.
The U.S. Department of Justice has already charged several individuals connected to politically-driven attacks on Tesla vehicles, including suspects who used explosive devices in North Carolina and Las Vegas. A federal task force has since been formed to investigate the growing trend of violence stemming from ideological opposition to Musk and his companies.
Canada is now seeing similar patterns. According to Global News, police across the country are actively investigating 28 separate incidents of vandalism or violence at Tesla properties. In Vancouver alone, law enforcement officials have confirmed nine recent “mischief” cases involving Tesla vehicles, including liquid thrown on cars, wipers snapped, rocks hurled, and even racist graffiti etched onto vehicle exteriors. Crucially, none of these types of incidents were reported in 2024, indicating a sudden, politically charged escalation.
As for the rock-throwing incident, police are seeking witnesses and requesting dash cam footage from drivers who were on Nanaimo Street between East 22nd and East 29th Avenues from 8:40 to 9:00 p.m. on March 30. Thus far, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made.
