Thievery, violence, and outright chaos have been running rampant across the United States in recent years, and a lot of it can be traced back to one key issue: Democrats pushing their soft-on-crime policies. Somehow, they got it into their heads that being lenient on criminals would curb crime. As wild as it sounds, there were even proposals to send social workers instead of police officers to handle dangerous situations. Let that sink in—social workers to deal with hardened criminals.
Then, of course, we saw the rallying cry to “defund the police” take off like wildfire among the Democrats. What followed? Predictable chaos. Crime spiraled so far out of control that even the bluest cities—places like San Francisco—eventually found themselves begging for their police back. When San Francisco, the poster child for progressive policies, starts demanding more law enforcement, you know something’s gone very, very wrong.
But despite the outcry from people living in these crime-ridden cities, the Democrats haven’t learned their lesson. Nope, they continue to coddle criminals, convinced that these people are part of some “oppressed class” that needs protection from law enforcement. The idea that society’s most dangerous elements are victims has totally warped their sense of reality. And who’s paying the price? Law-abiding citizens trying to live their lives.
Criminals have taken full advantage of this backward thinking. In some places, they brazenly commit crimes in broad daylight, knowing full well that nothing will happen to them. Shoplifters stroll into stores, grab what they want, and walk out without fear. It’s gotten so bad that in certain cities, law enforcement is openly telling criminals they can steal up to a certain dollar amount with no repercussions. Yes, you read that right—steal up to a specific limit, and you’re golden.
Former President Donald Trump has had enough, and he’s making this issue a centerpiece of his message as to why Democrats need to be removed from power. Trump has always been blunt, but recently he laid out a solution that has the left in an absolute frenzy. During a rally, Trump pointed out how cops are being hamstrung by progressive policies. “The police aren’t allowed to do their job,” he said. “They’re told if you do anything, you’re going to lose your pension, you’re going to lose your family, your house, your car. What the hell is going on?”
Then came his solution: a single day of tough, no-nonsense policing to send a clear message to criminals. “One rough hour—and I mean real rough—the word will get out, and it will end immediately,” Trump said. It’s not exactly a soft approach, but hey, desperate times call for desperate measures. And given the state of some of these cities, “real rough” policing might just be what’s needed to stop the madness.
Trump advocates for “one rough hour of policing” to teach criminals that committing crimes is dangerous again.

Predictably, the left lost its mind. The usual crowd of neon-haired, upper-middle-class protesters started screaming about fascism and oppression. One particularly unhinged critic even compared Trump’s suggestion to Kristallnacht, the infamous night of Nazi-led attacks on Jews in Germany. Really? Cracking down on shoplifters and violent criminals is now the same as genocide? The hysteria knows no bounds.
But let’s be honest: what’s truly dangerous here? Is it Trump’s idea of letting the police do their jobs for once, or is it the left’s insistence on empowering criminals to run wild? I’d argue that emboldening criminals by making them believe they can get away with anything is far more harmful than a single day of decisive law enforcement. Imagine how quickly crime would drop if just once, criminals saw real consequences for their actions.
Unfortunately, this is a reality that won’t happen in blue cities anytime soon. At least, not until the people living there have had enough. And let’s be clear—they’re getting there. How long can people tolerate their communities being overrun by crime while their leaders bend over backward to protect the perpetrators? Eventually, even the bluest of cities will get fed up. And when that day comes, Trump’s approach might not sound so radical after all.
