Well, here we go again. Another day, another self-righteous lecture from someone who apparently missed the memo about why the American people voted the way they did. This time, it’s Bishop Mariann Budde who used the inaugural prayer service—a prayer service, mind you—to take shots at President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance over their immigration policies. Because what’s more appropriate for a religious gathering than politicking and finger-wagging at the duly elected leaders of the United States?
Let’s break this down. Budde decided to lecture Trump and Vance on their immigration agenda, urging them to abandon the promises they made to the American people about securing the border, deporting criminal illegal aliens, and restoring some semblance of order to a chaotic immigration system.
“The vast majority of immigrants are not criminals,” she said as if that’s somehow an excuse for ignoring the ones who are. She even tugged on the heartstrings, adding, “May I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away.”

Mercy? Here’s an idea: How about having mercy on the American families whose loved ones were killed by illegal aliens who should never have been here in the first place? How about having mercy on the Border Patrol agents working around the clock to handle the flood of migrants created by years of open-border policies? Funny how that kind of mercy never seems to make its way into these lectures.
TRUMP RESPONDS TO SERMON BY WOKE BISHOP:
“Mr. President, what did you think of the sermon?”
“What did you think? Did you find it exciting? Was not too exciting, was it?”

For most of the day, Trump played it cool. When asked about Budde’s comments after the service, he quipped, “What did you think? Did you find it exciting? Was not too exciting, was it?” Classic Trump—cool, dismissive, and saving the real fireworks for later. And sure enough, just past midnight, he took to Truth Social to torch Budde in a way only Trump can. Calling her a “so-called Bishop” and a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” he didn’t mince words.
He slammed her for dragging her church into politics in such an “ungracious way” and reminded everyone of the real issue at hand: the giant crime wave happening in this country due to unchecked illegal immigration. Trump doesn’t sugarcoat it—illegal migrants, including those dumped from foreign jails and mental institutions, are wreaking havoc on our streets, and Budde conveniently forgot to mention that during her sermon.

Of course, Budde wasted no time running to CNN, where she undoubtedly found a warm, sympathetic audience eager to amplify her outrage. But while she basked in the media glow, others were having none of it. CNN’s Scott Jennings hit the nail on the head, joking that this is what happens when you let the “Wokescopalians” hijack a traditional prayer service and turn it into a circus. Truer words have rarely been spoken.
Here’s the reality: Budde’s little sermon didn’t move the needle. If anything, it was a desperate attempt to grandstand on a platform that wasn’t hers to begin with. The American people didn’t elect her—they elected Trump and Vance precisely because they promised to tackle illegal immigration and put American citizens first. Budde can preach all she wants, but it’s not going to stop ICE from doing its job or the Trump administration from enforcing the law.
So yes, Bishop Budde, you got your five minutes of fame. Congratulations. But the voters have spoken, the agenda is moving forward, and no amount of woke moralizing is going to change that. Time to pack it up and, as the saying goes, let the grown-ups get to work.
