President Trump announced he is creating a new “AI Force” on Saturday. He also said he would appoint a new AI “czar” to lead the effort. The goal is to protect the industry from what he calls political attacks. He wrote about the plan on Truth Social, calling the move a direct response to critics. According to the New York Post, the President views this industry as vital for American competitiveness.
He compared the new group to the Space Force he created earlier. “For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force,” he wrote. The Space Force became a sixth branch of the armed forces in 2020. However, creating another branch would require new action from Congress. It remains unclear exactly what tasks this new force will handle. ABC News notes that the specific duties have not been defined yet.
Trump dismissed fears that artificial intelligence could destroy humanity. He called these warnings a “hoax” generated by his political opponents. He listed many other issues he considers fake, including “Men in Women’s Sports” and “Global Warming.” He wrote that “the Radical Left Dumocrats” created these stories to hurt the country. His full list includes “Impeachment Hoax #1” and “Impeachment Hoax #2” alongside the AI warnings. He stated he will not “stand by” and let opponents take down the industry.

Some top tech leaders disagree with his view on the risks. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have warned that development should slow down. Amodei published a blog post last week calling for a slower pace. Altman said his company would welcome a slower pace to ensure safety. The Daily Caller reported that these warnings came before Trump’s Saturday announcement.

Public opinion seems to lean toward caution regarding local infrastructure. A Gallup poll published in May found that around 75% of Americans oppose data centers near their homes. Trump noted that “China could not be happier” about this opposition. He mentioned a “crazed Data Center attack” as part of the political pressure against AI growth.
Despite the new force, Trump said existing laws are enough to catch bad actors. He stated the U.S. will look for “BAD” through the current criminal justice system. “We will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System,” he said. He promised to cherish and help the industry grow rather than hinder it. The plan moves forward without a clear timeline for the next steps.
