Former President Donald Trump ignited controversy over the weekend by sharing a fake photo of Vice President Kamala Harris allegedly speaking at a communist event in Chicago. The image, which Trump posted on Truth Social on Saturday and later on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, was accompanied by a series of accusations against Harris. Trump has recently escalated his attacks on her, labeling her a “communist” and referring to her as “Comrade Kamala.” These accusations were echoed during a rally in Pennsylvania, where Trump claimed Harris wanted to impose “socialist price controls.”
Trump’s use of the “Comrade Kamala” moniker didn’t stop there. His campaign incorporated it into a fundraising email on Monday, warning supporters that “Comrade Kamala and Dangerously Liberal Tim Walz will burn this country to the ground!” The email accused Harris and Walz of backing “SOVIET Style Price Controls.”
These statements appear to be in response to Harris’s recent economic proposal, unveiled on Friday, which aims to tackle price gouging. Her plan calls for the “first-ever federal ban” on the practice, particularly concerning food and groceries. Although the proposal lacks detailed implementation strategies, it emphasizes the need for regulations to prevent companies from exploiting consumers for excessive profits. It also suggests granting more authority to the Federal Trade Commission and state officials to enforce these rules.
The Harris campaign has not yet responded to Trump’s posts, but the incident highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) and misinformation in the 2024 election cycle. This isn’t the first time AI-generated content has stirred controversy; earlier this year, fake images of Trump with Black voters circulated online. Additionally, Trump has accused Harris, without evidence, of using AI to artificially inflate crowd sizes at her rallies.
The Trump campaign is also trolling the media with AI generated photos of women wearing “Swifties for Trump” shirts.
The images are meant to troll the Democrats who desperately want Taylor Swift’s endorsement.
Initially, the media thought Trump had fallen for the photos until they realized his campaign was poking fun at them.
