Well, well, well, here we go again—another Democrat, another set of “misstatements,” and yet somehow we’re supposed to just shrug it off. Tim Walz, Democratic vice-presidential candidate, finds himself in hot water over some pretty significant fabrications about his past, but of course, we’re all supposed to just look the other way because, hey, at least he’s not Donald Trump, right?
On Monday, Walz appeared on The View and was immediately pressed by Alyssa Farah Griffin about the many, let’s call them inconsistencies, in his past statements—everything from his supposed presence in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests to his claims about carrying “weapons of war” while “in war.” And what does Walz do? He pulls the classic politician move: dodge, deflect, and, naturally, drag Trump’s name into the conversation.
Griffin even set him up for a soft landing, clarifying that, yes, nobody lies as much as Trump. That’s right, Tim, don’t worry—your lies don’t really matter because you’ll never top Trump. But the real kicker is when Walz tries to brush off his fabrications by saying that people “get it out there” and know the difference between a little slip-up and being a pathological liar. Sorry, Tim, but I’m pretty sure voters expect some honesty from anyone running for office, whether they’re up against Trump or not.
Let’s not forget the Hong Kong claim. Walz said he was there during the deadly Tiananmen Square protests in 1989, but surprise, surprise—it turns out he didn’t even set foot in China until August of that year. When confronted, Walz blamed the usual suspect: he “misspoke.” Well, I guess we’re all supposed to believe that anyone can just get a historic event like the Tiananmen Square massacre wrong. No big deal, right?
Then, there’s the “weapons of war” fiasco. During a 2018 interview, Walz proudly declared that he had carried weapons of war “in war,” but oops—the Harris campaign had to walk that one back too. Apparently, he didn’t quite mean it the way it sounded. Once again, it was a “misspeak.” Of course, they threw in a little jab at Trump and JD Vance for good measure, accusing them of valuing the gun lobby over children’s safety. Because what better way to excuse your own candidate’s lie than by shifting the conversation to guns?
At this point, Walz has mastered the art of the non-apology. When asked about the discrepancy during a debate, he fumbled through a long-winded explanation about being a teacher and a coach—because, clearly, that explains everything. And just to top it off, he called himself a “knucklehead.” Well, at least we can agree on one thing, Tim.

But here’s the real issue: Democrats like Walz expect to be given a free pass. They can twist the truth, and as long as they sprinkle a little Trump-bashing into their explanation, they’re golden. Voters are supposed to just nod along and say, “Well, at least he’s not Trump!” But guess what? The American public is getting tired of the double standard. If Walz can’t even get basic facts about his own history straight, how on earth are we supposed to trust him—or his running mate Kamala Harris—with the future of the country?
Honesty matters, folks. And no amount of smooth-talking on The View is going to cover up the fact that Tim Walz is lying to us. But hey, I guess as long as he’s not as bad as Trump, it’s all good, right?
