House Hearing Get Intense During Economy Discussion

To say this week has been a disaster for Democrats would be an understatement. From their humiliating antics during President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress to their embarrassing performance in the House Oversight Committee’s hearing on sanctuary cities, it’s clear that their messaging is falling flat—and the American people are noticing.

Tuesday night’s debacle in the chamber was bad enough. Rep. Al Green (D-TX) had to be physically removed after repeatedly heckling the president. A chamber full of Democrats—except for one—refused to stand and applaud as Trump honored 13-year-old brain cancer survivor DJ Daniel by making him an honorary Secret Service agent. And of course, there were the usual Democratic theatrics: flashing paddle signs with political slogans, donning pink outfits as a symbol of solidarity, and generally behaving as though they were at a street protest rather than a serious governmental event.

But just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Wednesday brought the House Oversight Committee’s hearing on sanctuary cities, where the Democrats managed to humiliate themselves even further.

Take Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, whose approval rating among his own residents sits at a dismal seven percent—an almost impossible number for an incumbent to hit. His testimony only reinforced why the people of Chicago are fed up, as he struggled to justify policies that have made his city less safe. Meanwhile, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston got torched over his administration’s decision to release a dangerous Tren de Aragua gang member rather than turning him over to ICE.

And then, in what may be the most tone-deaf moment of the entire day, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) decided that egg prices were a more pressing issue than criminal illegal immigrants roaming free.

“President Trump, if you’re watching this hearing, I respectfully ask when will egg costs be high enough for you to issue one executive order on bird flu? $10 a carton? $15 a carton? It will soon be cheaper to buy a magazine for an AK-47 than breakfast. This is flat out wrong,” Krishnamoorthi said, as he pointed to a poster comparing the cost of eggs to a firearm magazine.

That’s right. While the hearing focused on actual dangers—gang violence, human trafficking, and the failure of Democratic mayors to uphold basic public safety—Krishnamoorthi thought it was the perfect time to make a prop joke about egg prices.

And let’s be real here: If President Trump could sign an executive order eliminating bird flu, that would be wildly impressive. But in case Krishnamoorthi forgot, egg prices skyrocketed under Joe Biden—and not once did Democrats seem particularly concerned about them back then.
