Well, what do we have here? A mass resignation at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)? That’s the way the Associated Press wants to frame it. But if you dig past their carefully curated narrative, what you actually have is a group of former Obama-era bureaucrats quitting in protest because their cozy government positions are being restructured under Elon Musk’s plan to cut waste.
The AP, which is still busy suing the Trump White House over press access, did its best to paint these departing staffers as noble defenders of the public interest. But let’s take a closer look at what really happened.

According to the AP’s own reporting, 21 civil service employees resigned from DOGE on Tuesday. And what was their reason? They claim they were refusing to “dismantle critical public services.”
In a dramatic resignation letter, the employees wrote:
“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations. However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”
Sounds serious, right? Until you realize who these people actually are.
The staffers came from what was formerly known as the United States Digital Service (USDS)—a team created during the Obama administration to fix the catastrophic Healthcare.gov rollout. That’s right—the very website that crashed and burned when it launched, leaving millions of Americans in limbo as they tried to enroll in health insurance.
And now, these same bureaucrats—who once presided over one of the biggest tech failures in government history—are suddenly outraged that they won’t be in charge of the federal government’s digital services anymore.
So, let’s reframe this story with the real headline:
“Obama-era bureaucrats quit after Elon Musk takes over their office and starts eliminating waste.”
Let’s be clear: this is about power, not principle.
Musk’s mission at DOGE is simple—slash the bureaucracy, increase efficiency, and make government work for taxpayers, not bureaucrats. That means restructuring entire departments, consolidating redundant offices, and yes, eliminating positions that aren’t necessary.
But to these career government employees, the idea of accountability and efficiency is a threat. They were perfectly comfortable under an administration that let government bloat unchecked. Now, they’re being told that their services aren’t as indispensable as they once believed, and rather than adapt, they’re throwing in the towel.
And of course, they can’t leave quietly. No, they have to make a grand political statement on the way out—because in their minds, it’s not that their jobs weren’t necessary, it’s that Trump and Musk are just too mean to appreciate their brilliance.
