This base hosts US B-1B Lancer bombers, which are key to US plans in the region. The woman who called said she knew the base had faced threats before. She told the BBC she saw a large group of hooded people flee when they spotted her. Police arrived within minutes of her call.

President Donald Trump weighed in on Monday. He said the arrests happened after US and British authorities worked together for a long time. Security around the base had been tight for days before the arrest. Locals reported observing additional concrete barriers and large trucks obstructing the entryway. The woman who made the initial call has not been contacted by officials about what she saw. She expressed surprise at the lack of follow-up. Meanwhile, local leaders are trying to calm fears.
Residents in Whelford and nearby Kempsford are still watching closely. The base is about 100 miles west of London. It is one of several UK bases used by the US Air Force.
