Well, here we go again. Another day, another MSNBC panelist declaring a “crisis” among American men, this time over their support for former President Donald Trump.
This time, it’s Mara Gay, a New York Times editorial board member, letting us all know that men voting for Trump are, according to her, in some sort of existential crisis. And what’s her evidence for this? Apparently, it’s because these men are listening to Joe Rogan, aren’t heading to therapy, and are somehow being recruited to fascism. Yes, folks, because that’s apparently the male voter demographic these days.
First off, let’s talk about how lazy this argument is. Gay’s sweeping generalization about men listening to Rogan as some sort of cry for help is not only an overreach—it’s laughably out of touch. Rogan’s podcast is a platform that covers everything from UFC to politics to comedy, reaching millions of listeners, including men and women. But according to Gay, if you’re a man and you tune in, you’re probably on the fast track to some sort of mental crisis or, worse, fascism. Got it.
She didn’t stop there, though. Gay claims men flocking to Trump is evidence of their alleged “crisis” and further implies that a little therapy might save them from themselves. “I go to therapy,” she proclaims as if that’s the magic pill for anyone who doesn’t see the world through her politically tinted glasses.
Meanwhile, the panelist crew, led by host Mika Brzezinski, backed her up, offering the standard MSNBC fare—Trump’s support is fueled by bigotry, racism, and misogyny. This tired playbook assumes that any man supporting Trump must be reaching for the lowest common denominator in human behavior. Brzezinski’s takeaway? Trump’s just feeding this “faux masculinity” to these troubled souls in crisis, and it’s all a downward spiral from there.
What they conveniently fail to mention is that a lot of men aren’t voting for Trump because they’re in “crisis.” They’re voting for him because they see his policies—whether it’s on the economy, immigration, or national security—as aligning with their interests. But no, the media insists on framing it as some sort of psychological breakdown among men because, heaven forbid, voters actually like Trump for reasons beyond personal dysfunction.
And let’s not forget how Gay’s remarks were torched on social media. Mollie Hemingway, editor-in-chief of The Federalist, didn’t hold back, reminding us all of Gay’s past intellectual slip-ups—like the time she grossly miscalculated Mike Bloomberg’s campaign spending, claiming he could give every American a million bucks with his $500 million campaign budget. Solid math, Mara.
Then there’s Kira Davis, a conservative author, who reminded us of Gay’s Independence Day column where she felt “threatened” by American flags waving proudly in small-town America. Yes, because nothing says “patriotism,” like feeling uncomfortable in the presence of Old Glory.

Let’s be honest. When you have media elites like Gay lecturing men about their supposed shortcomings and why they need therapy, it’s no wonder they’re voting for Trump. If this is the alternative—being talked down to, mischaracterized, and pathologized—then voting for Trump starts to look like the only sane choice. Instead of calling for therapy and painting an entire gender as broken, maybe it’s time for these talking heads to consider that men, like the rest of us, are just sick of the condescension.
