At the recent Republican National Committee meeting in Dallas, lawmakers warned that the rise of Islam in the state could change everything. The real shock is that officials are now calling for an end to state funding for groups linked to violent overthrow. This isn’t just a border issue anymore. It is about who runs the state and what values guide it.
State Rep. Brian Harrison told reporters he thinks Texans are scared. He said people are watching videos from Europe and the UK and fear the same trouble could happen here. Harrison believes waiting until November is a mistake. He wants action right now. According to The Daily Signal, Harrison stated, “We shouldn’t be funding organizations that have ties to organizations that call for the violent overthrow of Texas or the United States government. This is the bare minimum.” That is a strong line, and it shows how serious they are.
Harrison isn’t the only one worried about where tax dollars go. He pointed out that some current grant programs might be sending money to the wrong places. “I’m very concerned about some of our grant programs, that potentially are going to those organizations in the state of Texas,” he said. This means your state money could be supporting ideas that oppose your way of life.
Congressional candidates are joining the fight too. Brandon Herrera, running for District 23, said the growth of Islam should be a major concern for everyone. He warned that if the state does not act, the problem will grow faster than anyone expects. “If it’s not addressed, it’s something that continues to grow faster, and it completely changes the identity of the state,” Herrera said. He sees this happening in Dallas-Fort Worth and from San Antonio to El Paso.
The concern has reached Washington as well. Rep. Chip Roy sent a letter to federal officials about a planned Islamic development near a military training base in San Antonio. He asked them to check if any laws were broken during the project’s expansion. Officials should “examine whether any criminal, civil, financial, or immigration statutes have been violated in its effort to fulfill its campus expansion project,” Roy wants.
Meanwhile, Rep. Keith Self introduced a resolution titled “Denouncing Sharia Law in the United States.” This move reaffirms that elected officials must protect citizens and keep the liberties the Founders gave us. It is clear that the party is drawing a line in the sand. They say they will not let foreign laws replace American ones.
Gov. Greg Abbott also spoke at the convention, though he focused on the border and Democrats. He said Texas has the toughest immigration laws in the nation. He promised to keep Texas red and help President Trump keep America great. But the message from the lawmakers is clear. They see a different kind of challenge that needs a forceful response.
The election is set for November 3, 2026. Until then, the question remains: will the state stop funding these groups? The answer will decide if Texas keeps its identity or changes forever.
